For me, the owner and photographer at Fuzz Design, my love for photography was nurtured through persistence, self-learning, and a deep connection with animals. Sarina Veliz, the Owner and Photographer at Fuzz Design
My roots are firmly planted in the picturesque region of the Murraylands, where I was born and raised in the rural town of Murray Bridge. Growing up and enjoying a wonderful childhood in the country, it’s no wonder that my artistic inclination and love for capturing moments began to blossom from an early age. However, my path to becoming a photographer wasn’t without its challenges.
Early Years
During my high school years, I realised that my school didn’t offer photography classes, making it difficult to pursue my passion within the structured education system. Undeterred, I took matters into my own hands and enrolled in night classes at a different school to learn the art of photography. This determination and drive to follow my dreams set the foundation for my future success.
After completing high school, I continued my studies at the new (at the time!) Adelaide College of Arts. Here, I had the opportunity to immerse myself in a state-of-the-art facility, complete with darkrooms, studios, and a comprehensive education in creative photography and design. It was during this time that I have a memorable moment that would later shape my career—a secret studio session with my beloved puppy. Those cherished photographs serve as a reminder of the magic that happens when one combines their passion and creativity. I still have that precious album of photos and love looking back at my sweet puppy Eddie.
Although I initially pursued various types of photography, including weddings, corporate, product, and commercial work, I eventually discovered my true calling. It was through volunteering my photography skills to local dog and cat rescues that I realised my deep affinity for capturing the essence of animals. The joy and fulfilment I experienced in photographing these animals sparked a realisation—I wanted to specialise in pet photography.
Discovering the Dream
With this newfound clarity, I made the decision to transform my hobby into a full-fledged business. I founded Fuzz Design, focusing on pet photography sessions that captured the unique personalities and bond between animals and their human companions. But my dream didn’t stop there; I envisioned a private farm where I could create an idyllic setting for pet and family photography.
Supported by my amazing husband, we embarked on an extraordinary journey. We sold our suburban house and dedicated ourselves to finding the perfect location for our dream farm. After more than a year of searching, we stumbled upon a magical spot that exceeded all expectations. It was a place where the sun set perfectly over a vast paddock, stretching to the horizon—an ideal backdrop for my photography sessions and our new lives.
Present Day
Throughout the years, I never ceased to pursue my passion. I continued to capture the spirit and beauty of various animals, from dogs and cats to ponies, bunnies, ducks, horses, and chickens. Each click of my camera brought me closer to realising my dream and cemented my love for pet photography.
Today, I stand as a testament to the power of perseverance, following one’s passion, and embracing the unexpected twists and turns of life’s journey. Through Fuzz Design, I bring joy and capture the precious moments that unfold between pets and their families. Our private farm serves as a sanctuary where animals and humans can connect, creating lasting memories against the backdrop of breathtaking natural beauty.
I want my story to be an inspiration to anyone who has ever questioned their path or wondered if they could turn their passion into a meaningful career. It also serves as a reminder that dreams can come true with hard work, determination, and a genuine love for what you do.
